Regal - Fast Trac hull

by Xboatboyx » 08 Sep 2015, 12:14

I would personally move Chapparal down and Regal up in that table. That aside fittings in our 2008 Regal tend to be stainless steel and gas assist struts in storage lockers. Out in the chop I find the hull takes it well and I think the fasttrac also helps smooth it out. I got some air off wakes at the weekend and felt very safe when the boat touched down  , unlike our old Bayliner that seemed to shake/rattle to death especially things like the Bimini top whereas the regal remains sturdy.

The Chaparral seems to get good reviews on build quality - but on SSi model- cockpit space is pretty limited, and for any given size Chaparral is much more expensive.

Plus the nearest Chaparral dealer seems to go bust with alarming frequency.

Sounds the same as our local Regal dealer and they don't acknowledge E-mails!

Hi

I thought as a Regal 2250 owner I should add what I can here.

Although we have not used the boat for water sports we have tested it in turns and I have not noticed any of the issues you mention, we actually have the new 4.5 Mercruiser with bravo 3 and I am told they actually made modifications to this engine to improve cornering though.

I have attached a photo of our wake although I cannot see a massive difference to the other posted already.

With regards to Quality I prefer to use the league table below which I referred to when deciding what to get when we moved from our Bayliner. I know everyone has there own opinion though.

Top : Formula, Cobalt, Bryant
High: Chaparral, Regal, Monterey, Ebbtide
Mid: Crownline, Four Winns, Rinker, Stingray, Sea Ray, Chris Craft
Budget: Bayliner, Glastron, Larson, Mariah, Tahoe, Caravelle, Maxum

I have found the quality on the latest boats to be really very good, stitching zips, hatches etc. I am told though that the Cobalt quality is higher but handling not so good.

I would also agree with Xboatboyx that the hull takes the chop well and the Fast Trac hull smooths it out, My wife actually described the feeling of floating on Air before she knew that is sort of what it did.

I hope this may help

Anybody familiar with 2000 LSR

Was looking around and came across a brand new (drive still shrunk wrapped) 2012 model.
No doubt could be picked up at good price .. but i t will be soon be a 5yr old boat.

LSR model pros & cons ?

Do you mean 2100 LSR? I thought they did 1900 LSR and 2100LSR and a 2000ES/ESX

Personally not keen on the looks of the 2100LSR as the side window looks "strange" and also think that they were discontinued by 2012?

If you are talking of the ES/ESX models then they are great looking boats, James will probably be along soon to comment more specifically than my "looks good"

This one? http://www.apolloduck.co.uk/feature.phtml?id=405422

Been for sale for a while now. Would this really be a trade up from your Monterey? Its not much bigger and with the same engine wouldn't perform any different. I would have thought one of the RX models with Wakeboard tower would be more ideal for Watersports.

I'd agree on both points ............

Just came across it .. and its 2 years newer ............ but compared to current 2000esx it seems pretty low spec - maybe that is why it has not sold.
