Where to go

by NickG » 08 Apr 2017, 10:54

Hi I have a trailered 15ft Dejon type boat. I live in Halifax West Yorkshire and I'm looking for somewhere local to launch and try/use my boat and I'm having no success what so ever.

I have looked at the river Calder which would be fine but I cannot find a slipway I can use. I have spoken to the river and canal trust who can supply me a licence but no way of actually getting onto the water !

Could anyone help me or point me in the right direction to a river or body of water that I can go to and try out my boat !

Many thanks

Nick

York Marine on the River Ouse?

http://www.yorkmarine.co.uk/marine-services/slipway/

Launched there plenty of times. Great for a trip up in to the city centre and back. You can get a day licence from them when you launch and they'll launch it for you too....

I originate from the Halifax area Nick, we use to take ours to Hollingworth Lake at Littleborough, or another place was Green Withins Reservour just off the M62 near Ripponden. Thats where I learned to sail with my dad.

This was many many years ago though when we were kids, so not sure if it is still possible.

Hi thanks for those I will definitely look into those. To be honest I'm finding brick wall after brick wall ! Places like scammonden, Halifax sailing club, Hollingsworth lake etc will not allow motor powered craft on ! Also struggling with getting on a river I can get a licence but no slipway !

Another place we used to go was the River Ure at Boroughbridge, I am almost certain that Boroughbridge Marina still have a slipway onto the River Ure.

Just checked, they have a website showing that they still have a slipway. Although the slipway charge of £8.51 per day including vehicle and trailer parking seem somewhat excessive. 8-)

Thank you for that information £8.51 seems ok considering shire cruisers at sowerby bridge want £25 to use their slipway that's on top of the canal and river licence at nearly £15 for the day !

Many many thanks I will look into those options
