Motor Boat Forum

And so it begins

The dirty, messy ... but thoroughly satisfying task ....
Last w/end stripped out trailer hubs.

Usual of ... remove drums, remove front and rear bearings, wash clean in petrol.
Clean back plates with brake dust remover.
Take out all brake mechanisms ... fully clean.
This time ... shoes neeed replacing ... so painted new ones in 2-part epoxy
Drums have a slight lip, so having that machined out ... if needed they will be skimmed .. but probably OK, just need to remove the lip.

Once I get them completed. ... will reassemble, with new grease seals.

Fill up the Bearing Buddies .... and the very fiddly job of adjusting the brakes ...

Also brakes are difficult as adjuster is obscured by swivel arm ... poor design.

I'll post a couple of pics if I remember to take them.

Then around 3 weeks time - it's time to go get wet.

SkySki will be reassembled and ready to go ... here was my last run of 2016 ... good long run, going fine ... until I hit a pot line that some tosser had laid across ski area !! Floating on the surface.

Face slap ... could have been serious for a water skier - if taken around the ankle.

Surprised that did not get caught up round the engine first.

What happened to the line ?? Are you allowed to remove or cut it ?

Maybe it was too deep to catch on engine ... if you look at video I was a fair way off the starboard ... maybe that explains why.

It was certainly a floating rope ..... nuts to put that in Ski area.

This is what was on other end of it:

They do that in the ski area off Cowes every year, until they lose a few lines, then they move elsewhere.

Damned nuisance.

Usually attached to black painted plastic containers as markers which are strictly illegal but nothing seems to get done about them. Not usually with floating line though to be fair.

That's really dangerous and needs to be reported. I think I'd have had a stakeout for the owner and reunited them - around his neck!

The number of pots and poorly marked lines is becoming a headache everywhere it seems. We've had a pilot whale off the South Devon coast and she's been rescued twice now by the RNLI after getting entangled in pot lines.

I will admit had that caught me it would have been cut into many many pieces.
