Another boat!

by TorbayRob » 02 Apr 2017, 19:08

Some of you will already be aware, but for those that aren't - we seem to have bought another boat!

Agreed a deal on Friday on our first non-Fletcher boat (feeling like a deserter! :? ) - and at the same time scratched an itch that I've had since a teenager by buying a 1983 Sunseeker Portofino 25! Very excited household at the moment!!! There's a bit of a delay now as the vendor is away for three weeks, but we've viewed and paid deposit. Net step is to go up with head of engineering from work and give the mechanicals a once over. Assuming all is well, we can arrange her transport home.

She is in very good overall condition and has clearly been well loved. (Same owner for 32 years!) She's very original, comes complete with trailer, is coppercoated and has a 246hp Steyr turbodiesel - 6 pot inline (very smooth). She was repowered in 2002 and has only done 207 hours since. The only issues are that the engine hasn't been serviced since 2014 (20 hours ago) and I suspect neither has the Bravo drive! Not used at all last year. The only other things to attend to are the trailer that hasn't been serviced for years (but not used to launch) and the gel coat that a) needs a really good cut n polish, but b) the coloured areas have been over painted by hand! The latter will need sanding back at some point and spraying with topcoat to get a nice finish again (or perhaps cheat and do a vinyl wrap?)

Pictures to follow when we get her home, but in the meanwhile... http://parkstonebayyachts.com/boats-for ... le-4747367

On the waiting list for a berth in the inner harbour at Torquay, but plan b is a temporary berth at work (Kingswear)

So, suddenly we find ourself a 3 boat family! I will still progress the Arrowbolt project, but pending the sale of a flat, this should go a bit quicker than it has so far! Not sure yet what to do with the ArrowSport - will probably just hold on to for a while or perhaps even keep longer term for trailering further afield. It's now a fantastic boat and I would probably struggle to find another for what's its cost me over the last few years...

Roll on summer...

Cheers,

Robin

Congratulations! Bet you can't wait to get her home now.
I have always had a soft spot for the Classic Sunseekers.
I looked at a few Mexico's a few years back
Out of interest, what is the difference between the Mexico and Portofino? (other than 1 foot in length :D ) Is it just an age thing?

Yes, I've looked at Mexico's too! Mostly later and and yes, a foot smaller - heads isn't separate IIRC. We'd like a Portofino 31, but I figured the running costs would be prohibitive - i.e. having to get lifted and twice the number of engines and drives! Adds a couple of grand or more a year before you factor in the berthing cost uplift!

Current plan is to take the Fletcher, but hopefully she'll be afloat by then so might make an appearance... 8-)
