Is there a better feeling than when......

by mlines » 01 Mar 2017, 08:49

Yes there is a better feeling.....when you throw the throttles forward on the first day of the season on the water.

Count down to this year has started, hopefully in the next few weeks., its the first day of spring today!

Video from last day of 2015 season to remind me of the experience

Bruce, try one of those foam roll mats that people use for camping or excercise classes... they are much more comfortable to lie on than rough ground and they are waterproof and insulate you from the cold ground, keeping you warm and dry too.

I expect that you know this already but, for anyone else thinking of stripping their antifoul, make sure that you wet sand the hull to prevent dust - antifoul dust is toxic!

Good advice Mark, I used my wifes old pilates mat, it was a very nice pattern of white & pink when I first took it.
It is now a dirty shade of blue....wet sanded antifoul gets everywhere!

No I will never sand AF again. Not for love nor money. Even though I was suited and booted last time, my ills started when I last sanded. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. But I clearly remember feeling very run down after that session and have never recovered. The problem with scraping once paint stripper has been applied is the AF turns to paste but not dust :). Anything you lie on would soon be covered and burn you. Dirt and mud you can sweep but the taupe I had was single use only. For stripping mud is actually the best if least pleasant substrate

Good quality wet & dry paper (I use 600 grit) and plenty of water.
Overalls, face mask, glasses and a hat. Then lashings of elbow grease!

Then a hot bath to try and ease the aching muscles.
