Bayliner Ciera 2355

by Bigplumbs » 22 Sep 2015, 08:50

In my search For a bigger boat I have found a 1997 Bayliner Ciera with a Mercruiser 4.3 LX v6. The boat is local to me and is stored out of the water from the pics it looks well kept Asking price £14,000

Those who know about sports cruisers what are your thoughts

If your looking for outright performance then the 4.3 will be underpowered but will still cruise nicely and will be fine on the river.

Hi Dennis

I suspect you might be thinking this but in my opinion and it is only an opinion, The Bayliner Ciera is not as well appointed as the Sea Ray Sundancer. However I can see the benefits for you as a second boat used for the Broads. I would say that the ones I've seen are well built and are well laid out for their size. Good accommodation with good entertaining space.

For a '97 2355 (23.5 footer) its about the right asking price, but because of its smaller engine. You've said it looks ok, therefore it would now depend upon condition.

I agree with James about the power for flat out running, but also I'm guessing you're thinking about the running costs especially at low revs for Broads cruising and occasional blasts on the sea, but I don't know if the 4.3 will give you a massive difference in economy than a 5.0 or a 5.7 at low speeds.

If I were looking for a cruising boat, I would still look for a boat that has a diesel engine, which is partially designed for river cruising, but could be used for coastal waters. Unless of course you are happy with a little digging into your pockets for fuel costs on the Broads, in which case buy a BIG engine boat.

I understand that it would be better with the larger engine but when looking second hand it is not easy to find the perfect boat.

I an not just interested in the broads and must be able to get a boat on the plain and I think this will cruise at about 30 mph which is ok. The beauty of this boat it is on the river Waveney which is not too far from my house, would give access to the broads and also the sea via lowerstoft or Yarmouth. Also it is stored in a boatyard for £125 a month which includes putting her in and out whe you call them. I could then tow her home in the winter

Would like a larger engine but that is one of the problems with second hand

I would say keep an eye on eBay. There are some real bargains coming up at the moment. Not that I'm looking or anything  :?
