I have been looking a long while for a boat for my brother. I have found a nice Bayliner Capri 1992 with a 100hp Yamaha outboard on this 18.5 ft boat. My 17 foot fletcher has a 115hp. I was wondering if the 100hp on the 18.5 footer might be a bit sluggish. The boat with trailer I think I could get for about £3200

If so, a couple of things.
I looked up the dry weight of a Capri '92 and they're listed at 1880lbs about 853kgs. The above boat is on what appears to be an unbraked trailer, so with the engine and fuel, its illegal to tow it.
Also its had the floor done at some point, but then I really don't think that's a major issue depending on whether they ripped it all out and checked the stringers.
However at £3200 its not a bad price if all good, except for the trailer if my info is right, in which case, if you want to trail it you'll have to get a braked trailer. Of course it may not be the above boat in which case......I'll get my hat!!
Oh and it says VAT Exempt, not sure what that means and its in Scotland, long way to go if its rubbish.

We had the Bayliner 185 with the inboard 130HP engine. This weights in at 1060kg dry according to Bayliner. The Capri looks to weight in at 875kg and I assume that is without the engine. So there is a 200kg difference due to the inboard engine and sterndrive.
The 185 performs well with the 130HP engine, pulling people on water toys with 3 or 4 passengers in the boat. I am not sure what a 100 HP outboard weights but you would have to add on the weight to the equation. It looks to me as if the 100Hp would move the boat ok but not be stunning.

Yes it was that boat but I got better pics and it was a bit rough so not going for it
Budget is 3 - 4K but it needs to be an outboard.
