Overheard on VHF

Went out yesterday to the Isle of Wight , very choppy, f5 winds, lots of spray in the cockpit but well worth it and good to finally get a decent run out.

Anyway whilst heading out we overheard a situation on the radio. Turns out someone had lost their trailer (I think hythe slipway) and trailer was floating off. VTS informed the guy to call the coastguard so hope all was sorted in the end and they managed to get it back.

We were keeping even more of any eye out whilst heading down Southampton water!

Why would a trailer float. Mine sinks like a brick ?

That's what we thought he did say floated off though. Obviously unlikely it was heading down Southampton water probably ended up a few metres out where he was unable to retrieve.

If they wait 'til the next big Spring tide they'll be able to wade out and attach line to it, it's amazing what you see at very low water there!

But as Dennis said, trailers tend to sink like stones, even though tyres have 30psi buoyancy and mine has 4 of them, at 500kgs it would still sink!!

It aint goin nowhere!!

Now thats interesting!! I was out in this too, from calshot. To be quite honest, it was too rough for my little Fletcher, well more accurately perhaps its occupants anyway. I was planning to head over to Cowes, but did an about turn. Was just getting too wet, the wave periods were very short indeed.

Nothing to do with PSI for buoyancy. Its all about displacement

Perhaps the trailer was still attached to the boat lol.
