No Water from Outboard Pee Hole

by JackBeneteau » 03 Jan 2020, 15:12

Hello, I'm relatively new to boating and have recently purchased a small fishing boat with a Honda BF50 %0 horsepower 4 stroke engine (year 2000).

I took the boat on a sea trial and worked fine with an Engineer. Since taking home off the sea for the winter I tried to flush the sea water using flush muffs.

Unfortunately it didn't have any water coming from the pee hole. I did then notice that on the instruction manual there are 3 water intakes and that if you use flush muffs you should tape up the 3rd intake.

I don't know if there is an air lock now or if I've done any damage? There are not any marine engineers around where I live as it is inland.

Could anyone suggest any checks I could do.

many thanks,

Jack.

Isn't the third intake a Flush Plug?

I assume the engine will still turn over? If so try it in a barrel (plastic dustbins are quite cheap) of water to see if it will start, if its a bit of a tight fit in the bin (you may have to raise the bin up on blocks) remove the prop (usually just a split pit and castellated nut. Flush it through that way, doubt there will be an air lock...even so the pressure of starting should sort it out. These engines are pretty bomb proof.
