Boat Engines etc - Maintenance and Repair

outboard problems

by tyke99 » 12 Mar 2017, 13:24

hi again, its the type of tank with a vent screw on the cap, its always open when engine is on, and closed when mooring, or should vent screw be left open when not in use?, id be cautious of condensation getting in tank with vent left open, how likely is the fuel pump the problem because yesterday when engine was playing up the primer bulb was still hard so fuel is getting to atleast the pump i would have thought, i could replace that myself without being charged daft money for mechanic to do it

I was just going to suggest that... :)

just an update, thought id try engine one more time before i see mecanic and engine is still acting up but now i can hear a hissing noise , cant hear it at full revs but medium revs you can, wonder if this is a sign of something more serious, i got engine working eventually while tied to pontoon but alas eventually stalled several times, tried acjusting carb screws with no luck, still stalled after engine shaking first then dies out, luv boating but so bloody frustating at times like this

Hissing noise wouldn't be a leak somewhere would it, I.e sucking in air somewhere?
Thatwould cause it to stall as it would be messing the mixture up?

hi, mate, dont think its a air leak, its a new line, new genuine yamaha primer bulb and hose connectors, i wish it was just a air leak it would be easy and cheap to correct, its a high pitched hiss, hard to describe really

This is not going to help perhaps, but now you ought to get another specialist to look at it, I feel your going round in circles and possibly making something that isn't that complicated a bit more so.
